Quag Keep, by Andre Norton
Sometimes you just need a little good old fashioned fun to wash your brain out, and vacation was certainly the time to do it. This little fantasy novel was Written about forty years ago by one of the most famous and prolific sci fi/fantasy writers in the U.S. It's built around Dungeons and Dragons, now a super popular table top game played by all sorts of people (myself included), but back then was firmly in the realm of geekdom. The premise of this book is that several gamers have been pulled into another dimension, the world of the game itself, as players within it who must discover and destroy the entity that brought them there. It's a fun little jaunt, skillfully told, and especially so for people who play the game and will recognize its core characteristics. D & D has become almost ubiquitous, so what was totally original forty years ago reads a bit trite now. But it's still fun as escapism!
